JERUSALEM, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Tuesday in separate statements that it has carried out extensive strikes against Hezbollah military targets across Lebanon, and has killed the commander of Hezbollah's operations unit in the coastal sector.

In Beirut, the Israeli army targeted infrastructure sites used by Hezbollah's coast-to-sea missile unit, command centers, and additional facilities, as well as its management and financial storage facilities, including headquarters, cash depots, and branches of the financial Qard al-Hasan Association, which Hezbollah uses to collect and store funds for military buildup, the IDF said.

In southern Lebanon, the Israeli army attacked at least 30 Hezbollah targets, it said.

Meanwhile, the IDF said the Israeli Air Force attacked and killed Ahmad Sabhi Hazima, commander of Hezbollah's operations unit in the coastal sector, in the city of Tyre in southern Lebanon.

According to the IDF, "Hazima advanced numerous terror attacks including infiltration plans into Israeli territory and firing anti-tank missiles at Israeli communities in the Western Galilee area."

The Israeli attacks came as the Israeli political-security cabinet is reportedly expected to discuss and approve a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon on Tuesday evening or Wednesday, more than a year after the fighting broke out between Israel and Hezbollah on Oct. 8, 2023.

On Monday, Lebanon's Deputy Parliament Speaker Elias Bou Saab said a ceasefire deal with Israel has become close after a meeting of the Parliament Bureau.

"We are approaching the ceasefire moment. This week or in the next 10 days, there will be a decisive position," Bou Saab said, according to the Lebanese official National News Agency.

But he also noted that the final decision for a ceasefire in Lebanon will be made according to developments in the war field.

Since Sept. 23, the Israeli army has intensified its air attack on Lebanon in an escalation of conflict with Hezbollah. Israel further initiated a ground operation across its northern border into Lebanon in early October.
