HELSINKI, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Over five million Swedish households will receive an updated crisis preparedness guide starting Monday. The booklet emphasizes wartime readiness and advises citizens on how to respond to potential crises and military aggression.
Authorities updated the guide in response to the deteriorating global security situation since its last distribution in 2018. "This guide is an important tool to clarify the role of individuals in total defense," Minister for Civil Defense Carl-Oskar Bohlin said in a press release.
The updated booklet features sections on maintaining essential supplies at home, digital security, and protection during air raids.
Neighboring countries Finland and Norway have also revised their preparedness guidelines for emergencies and crises.
Unlike Sweden and Norway, Finland has opted not to distribute printed guides to households. Instead, the Finnish government launched an extensive online guide on Monday, consolidating previously scattered information about crisis preparedness into a single platform.
The Finnish resource outlines preparations for various situations, including extended power and water outages, prolonged disruptions to internet and banking services, natural disasters like storms, and long-term crises such as pandemics or military conflicts. ■
