ACCRA, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Eight players from Ghana's national football team have withdrawn from the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, the Ghana Football Association confirmed on Monday.
According to the country's football governing body, their withdrawal was largely due to injury and personal reasons.
The eight players are Inaki Williams, Tariq Lamptey, Jonas Adjetey, Jerome Opoku, Antoine Semenyo, Alexander Djiku, Ibrahim Osman and Joseph Paintsil. Coach Otto Addo has called up several players to fill the vacancies ahead of their crucial AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
Currently ranking third in Group F with two points, one point over bottom side Niger, Ghana are looking to collect points from the remaining two matches to secure a spot at next year's AFCON in Morocco. ■
