KABUL, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) has handed over 288 newly-constructed houses to families affected by recent earthquakes in Gulran and Zenda Jan districts of Herat province in western Afghanistan, the administration said in a statement on Friday.
According to the statement, the houses were built in Shakarab, Band-e-Afzal and Sang Kotal areas of the districts, funded by the caretaker government's budget with an allocation of 102 million afghani (about 1.5 million U.S. dollars).
Recently, Herat province in western Afghanistan has suffered the most devastating earthquakes in recent decades, with multiple tremors, some of them reaching a magnitude of 6.3, causing heavy casualties. ■
