TUNIS, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia has recorded a 10 percent year-on-year decrease in the number of traffic accidents during the first 10 months of this year, private radio station Mosaique FM reported on Monday.

During the same period, the country has seen a 3 percent decline in traffic-related fatalities, Haitham Chaabani, representative of the country's National Road Safety Observatory, was quoted as saying.

From January to October, Tunisia recorded 4,500 traffic accidents, resulting in 368 deaths and 6,212 injuries, according to Chaabani.

The central province of Kairouan had the highest rate of serious accidents, accounting for 60 percent of the total.

Chaabani noted that these accidents are primarily attributed to factors such as lack of vigilance, speeding, and mobile phone use, among others.
