BUENOS AIRES, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Mauro Pitton and Nicolas Orsini scored either side of halftime as Union Santa Fe kept alive their title hopes with a 2-0 home win over Newell's Old Boys in Argentina's Primera Division on Friday.
Pitton put his side ahead with a curling effort from distance, and Orsini doubled the advantage with a cool finish after combining with Mateo del Branco.
The result leaves Union third in the standings with 33 points, six points behind leaders Velez Sarsfield with seven games remaining.
"It was an extremely difficult game, which is reflective of how evenly matched this competition is," Pitton said. "We hadn't been playing very well at home recently but today we did the job and that will help us build up confidence."
In other Argentine Primera Division fixtures on Friday, San Lorenzo won 1-0 at Central Cordoba, Huracan were held to a goalless home draw by Gimnasia, and Velez drew 1-1 at Argentinos Juniors. ■
