FUZHOU, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Yin Meigen, a former senior legislator of east China's Jiangxi Province, stood trial on charges of accepting bribes at a court in the eastern Fujian Province on Friday.

Yin formerly served as deputy secretary of the leading Party members group of the Standing Committee of Jiangxi Provincial People's Congress and vice director of the standing committee.

According to the indictment, between 2003 and 2023, Yin took undue advantage of his positions in Jiangxi to assist others in areas like project contracting, business operations and job promotions, accepting over 207 million yuan (about 29 million U.S. dollars) in bribes.

During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence, which the defendant and his legal team examined, and both sides gave their respective accounts of the case, according to a court statement.

Yin pleaded guilty and expressed remorse in his final statement.

A verdict will be announced in due course.
