WINDHOEK, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's U-18 national fistball team will depart for Llangquihue, Chile on Friday to compete in the U-18 World Championship.
The event will be held in Llanquihue from October 30 to November 2.
The team has undergone rigorous training in preparation for the tournament, including a week-long training camp in March supported by three Austrian coaches, Fistball Association of Namibia's media officer, Helmo Minz said on Monday.
The final squad of nine players was carefully selected by head coach and Namibian veteran Michael Baas and his assistant, Swiss national Stefan Grogli.
Furthermore, the coaching team will be supported by Fabian Greifeneder from Austria, Minz said.
According to Minz, the team will play two friendlies against Switzerland and Austria, two days before the kick-off on Oct. 31.
Namibia will face every of the other eight participating nations playing best out of three sets.
"On the first competition day, Namibia will battle it out against Denmark, Switzerland, European and World Champions Germany and South American powerhouse Brazil. On Nov. 1 Namibia will play Austria before taking on Argentina and India. The day thereafter hosts Chile await," he noted.
Based on their performance in the preliminary round, Namibia will advance to the relevant placement matches, he said. "The team aims to finish at least 6th," he noted.
This will be the first time for a Namibian U-18 national team to participate in the World Championship since 2014. ■
