GAZA, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian was killed and dozens more injured in an Israeli attack on two schools serving as shelters for displaced persons in the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, according to Palestinian sources on Friday.

Local sources and eyewitnesses reported to Xinhua that Israeli artillery targeted the "Hafsa" school, with paramedics confirming the recovery of the body of a deceased Palestinian woman along with four injuries.

Additionally, the Gaza Civil Defense stated that fire from Israeli drones struck the "Al-Fouqa" school, resulting in dozens of injuries. Civil defense teams transported 15 injured individuals to Kamal Adwan Hospital.

Israel has yet to comment on the attacks on the two schools.

The Israeli military continues its large-scale operation in Jabalia and the surrounding area, maintaining a tight siege for the sixth consecutive day.

On Friday, the al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, announced the destruction of an Israeli armored personnel carrier using a "Shawah" explosive device and a "Yassin 105" missile, resulting in casualties among the Israeli crew in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza.

Israel has been conducting a significant offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip in retaliation for a Hamas incursion across the southern Israeli border on Oct. 7, 2023, which resulted in approximately 1,200 fatalities and around 250 hostages taken.

According to Gaza-based health authorities, the Palestinian death toll from ongoing Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip has now reached 42,126, as reported on Friday.
