BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Li Yuefeng, formerly a member of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress, China's top legislature, has been removed from public office over serious duty-related malfeasance, according to an official statement on Friday.

The decision was made following an investigation by the National Commission of Supervision. Li is also a former executive vice chairperson of the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League.

The investigation found that Li had violated the central Party leadership's eight-point decision on improving conduct, engaged in speculation and corruption, and took undue advantage of his post to pursue personal interests for others.

Li's acts constituted serious duty-related malfeasance, and he is suspected of the crime of accepting bribes, the statement said.

In accordance with law and regulations, the decision was made to remove Li from public office, confiscate his illegal gains, and transfer his case to procuratorial authorities for review and prosecution, the statement said.
