BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chen Yan, a former senior political advisor from southwest China's Guizhou Province, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and removed from public office, an official statement said on Friday.

With the approval of the CPC Central Committee, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision launched an investigation into Chen for serious violations of discipline and law.

The investigation found that Chen had lost his ideals and beliefs, abandoned his original mission as a Party member, and developed a distorted view of political achievements.

He violated rules by seeking benefits for others in the selection and appointment of officials and accepted bribes. He also received gifts and cash in violation of regulations.

Chen exploited his position for personal gain, engaged in power-for-money transactions, used his authority to benefit others in project bidding, planning approvals, and business operations, and obtained a large sum of illegal funds.

Chen's illegal gains from his violations of discipline and law have been confiscated. His suspected criminal activities have been transferred to the procuratorial authorities for legal review and prosecution, the statement said.
