BEIJING, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Tang Yijun, a former senior political advisor in east China's Jiangxi Province, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office over serious violations of Party discipline and laws, according to an official statement issued on Monday.

Tang, former chairman of the Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, had allegedly taken advantage of his power to seek benefits for others in matters such as enterprise operation and listing, job promotion and legal-case handling, illegally accepting huge amounts of money and valuables in return, said the statement from the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision.

According to the statement, Tang's acts constituted serious duty-related violations and he was suspected of crime of taking bribes.

Tang's illegal gains will be confiscated and the case will be transferred to procuratorial authorities for review and prosecution. His qualification as a delegate to the 20th CPC National Congress was also terminated, according to the statement.
