JERUSALEM, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Militants in Yemen fired a surface-to-surface missile at central Israel on Monday afternoon, which was intercepted by the country's air defense systems, the Israeli military said in a statement.
"The surface-to-surface missile fired from Yemen was successfully intercepted by the IAF (Israel Air Force)," the military said.
The missile set off air-raid warning sirens in 200 towns and cities across central Israel, including Tel Aviv, the Ben Gurion International Airport area, Beit Shemesh, a city west of Jerusalem, and several settlements in the occupied West Bank.
No casualties have been reported, according to Eli Bin, director-general of Israel's Magen David Adom rescue service. ■
