BEIJING, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Du Zi, former deputy head of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) over serious violations of Party discipline and laws, according to an official statement issued on Monday.

Du had allegedly taken advantage of his power to seek benefits for others in matters such as project contracting, coal resource allocation and job adjustment, illegally accepting huge amounts of money and valuables in return, said the statement from the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision.

According to the statement, Du's acts constituted serious duty-related violations and the suspected crime of taking bribes.

Du's illegal gains will be confiscated and the case involving his suspected criminal activities will be transferred to procuratorial authorities for review and prosecution, according to the statement.
