VALLETTA, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- The number of irregular migrants relocated from Malta so far this year has risen to 175, with sixteen people relocated from the country on Monday, the Home Affairs Ministry has announced.
Since the start of 2024, 115 irregular migrants have been returned to their country of origin, while another 60 were relocated to other European Union (EU) countries. These figures are significantly above the number of 103 irregular migrants who have entered Malta so far this year.
The ministry said that the government's efforts to tackle irregular immigration are translating into positive results.
Relocation is the most efficient method for the EU to reduce the challenges that come with irregular immigration, it added, in particular for border countries such as Malta. ■
