SEOUL, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's imported car sale rebounded last month due to strong demand for German luxury vehicles, industry data showed Monday.

The number of imported vehicles sold here was 24,839 in September, up 10.1 percent compared to the same month of last year, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA).

It turned upward after falling in single digits in the previous month on the back of solid demand for German models.

For the first nine months of this year, the imported vehicle sale slipped 1.5 percent to 197,742 units compared with the same period of last year.

German carmaker Mercedes-Benz ranked first in terms of automotive sales here among foreign companies by selling 8,382 units last month.

Another German carmaker BMW came next with the local sale of 7,082 units, followed by U.S. automaker Tesla with 1,349 units, Lexus with 1,312 units, Volvo with 1,282 units and Audi with 995 units.

The number of European models sold here came to 20,247 last month, accounting for 81.5 percent of the total. U.S. and Japanese brands recorded the market shares of 9.2 percent and 9.3 percent each.
