SARAJEVO, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Ivovik wind power project, Bosnia and Herzegovina(BiH)'s first renewable energy project invested by Chinese companies, has been successfully connected to the grid, Power Construction Corporation of China said Tuesday.
Located in Livno, a city in western BiH, the project was highlighted as one of the achievements of the Summit of China and Central and Eastern European Countries in 2021.
Jointly funded and constructed by Power Construction Corporation of China and China General Technology Group, the project marks a significant milestone in China-BiH energy cooperation.
With a designed capacity of 84 megawatts, the wind farm comprises 20 Chinese-made turbines, each featuring 100-meter hubs and 67-meter blades. Annually, it is expected to generate 259 million kWh of electricity, reducing carbon emissions by 240,000 tons, contributing to BiH's green energy transition.
Livno mayor Darko Condric has stated that the Ivovik project not only aligns with European energy policies but also brings valuable employment opportunities to the local community, earning widespread support from local residents.
Miao Dake, charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in BiH, has emphasized the project's importance as a symbol of Chinese enterprise in BiH. The project will enhance bilateral economic ties and promote regional cooperation. ■
