ISTANBUL, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Consulate General in Istanbul has hosted a reception to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).
The event held here on Monday included performances by Chinese artists and a gala dinner. It was attended by overseas Chinese, Turkish guests, and diplomatic representatives.
While addressing the guests, China's Consul General in Istanbul Wei Xiaodong said China has undergone significant transformation over the past 75 years, and is on a clear path towards rejuvenation.
"We adhere to the path of peaceful development, and firmly believe that the Chinese nation will make greater contribution to the noble cause of peace and progress of humanity," Wei said.
He stressed that China has emerged as a crucial engine for global economic growth, and a key player in maintaining world peace and stability.
The initiatives put forward by China, including the Belt and Road Initiative and Global Development Initiative, have provided new solutions for tackling the common challenges of humanity, and drawn a new blueprint for building a better world, Wei added.
The consul general also emphasized that China and Türkiye share common interests in safeguarding their self-interests, pursuing development, and upholding international fairness.
Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu underlined the strengthening ties between Istanbul and Chinese cities. He said their cooperation have resulted in remarkable cultural and economic achievements, solidifying friendship and deepening mutual understanding and respect between their peoples.
Imamoglu also called for further collaboration between cities to tackle global challenges like climate change and economic fluctuations.
A photo collection by photojournalists from Chinese state media Xinhua was also showcased at the event, highlighting the relationship between Türkiye and China. ■
