ISLAMABAD, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's consumer price index decreased by 6.93 percent in September this year compared to the same month of 2023, marking the lowest inflation rate in 44 months, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday.

The data showed that consumer prices fell by 0.5 percent month-on-month in September, compared to a decrease of 0.4 percent in the previous month.

Experts credited the slowing inflation trend to several important factors, such as the impact of a high base from the previous year, decreasing global commodity and energy prices, and a stable exchange rate.

The inflation figure also came in below official forecasts as in its monthly economic report released on Friday, the finance ministry predicted that inflation would continue to ease over September to October, likely settling around 8 to 9 percent.

Local analysts commenting on the report said that the reduction in inflation rates is expected to provide relief to consumers and businesses alike.
