BAGHDAD, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Iraqi authorities on Monday said that they received 144 refugees from Lebanese families who had fled their homes due to the recent Israeli bombardments in Lebanon.

In a brief statement, the Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displaced said that the ministry received the refugees, including some injured people, at the al-Qaim border crossing point on the Iraqi-Syrian border.

Tensions between Hezbollah and Israel have sharply escalated following Israel's shift in military focus from Gaza to the northern front.

The rising tension and conflict in Lebanon have compelled many Lebanese families to seek refuge in Syria and Iraq.
