MADRID, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid will be without goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for their Champions League visit to Lille on Wednesday and their last La Liga game before the next international break away to Villarreal after the club confirmed he suffered a groin injury during Sunday's 1-1 draw away to Atletico Madrid.

"After tests carried out today on our player Thibaut Courtois by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an abductor injury in his left leg. His progress will be monitored," informed the Real Madrid website.

Although the club hasn't given a date for his return, Courtois is expected to be fit for the first game after the break, which is against Celta Vigo on October 19th.

Courtois suffered his injury in the second half of a bad-tempered Madrid derby, which had to be halted for 15 minutes after a section of Atletico's 'ultra' supporters, threw various objects at the goalkeeper after Eder Militao's opening goal for Real Madrid.

Although he was able to continue playing, Courtois was unable to take goal kicks and on one occasion threw the ball long to his companions as he was unable to kick the ball with any force.

Andriy Lunin, who was impressive when Courtois was out for most of last season with a knee injury, will be in goal for the visits to Lille and Villarreal.
