RAMALLAH, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli army killed a Palestinian man in Tulkarem city in the northern West Bank, according to a statement by the Ramallah-based Health Ministry on Tuesday.

Samir Amer, 55, was shot in the chest near the separation wall west of the village of Al-Jarushiya, according to local sources and eyewitnesses.

They said that Red Crescent Society workers had transported Amer to the city's government hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

There was no immediate comment from Israel regarding the incident.

Also on Tuesday, Israeli forces demolished two inhabited homes in the village of Khirbet Jabara, south of Tulkarm, according to the Palestine Liberation Organization's Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission.

A statement issued by the commission said that Israeli forces, accompanied by military bulldozers, stormed the village and demolished the homes.

Mohammed Jabara, one of the homeowners, told Xinhua that bulldozers tore down his house without allowing him to evacuate its contents, as soldiers forcibly removed his family from the property.

Tensions in the West Bank have heightened since the outbreak of conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, 2023.
