With 31 goals in the Champions League, the 31-year-old outpaced former United striker Wayne Rooney (30) and became the most successful Englishman.

While Erling Haaland, Luiz Adriano, and Lionel Messi had scored four goals in the world's most important club competition, Kane not only caught up but became the first player to successfully execute three penalties in a game.

In the wake of Kane's goal hunger, Bayern became the first side to score nine goals in a Champions League game. The German record champion now won 21 campaign opening games in a series harvesting a goal balance of 60:7.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany called his spearhead a phenomenon.

"He is a true leader. Not only when it comes to scoring, but his entire contribution is stunning. You see him hit the target up front and tackle in the back," the 38-year-old former Citizens captain mentioned.

The successor of 2021 Champions League winner Thomas Tuchel expressed his satisfaction "as I saw a team playing with desire and passion."

Kompany downplayed the Bavarians having captured the tableau's lead in the Champions League. "It was only the first game, admittedly coming with a great number of goals and a remarkable Harry."
