Tola Tsegaye Alemu (R) operates an industrial robot under the guidance of a teacher in Tianjin University of Technology and Education in north China's Tianjin, June 27, 2024. Tola Tsegaye Alemu, a 34-year-old Ethiopian, is currently pursuing his doctoral degree at Tianjin University of Technology and Education in China. He began studying in China in 2019 for his master's degree, and chose to stay on for his doctorate upon graduating in 2022.
Tola Tsegaye Alemu's connection with China can be traced back to the time when he met a Luban Workshop teacher from China in Ethiopia. Feeling the impact of vocational education on African youth, he decided to come to China to further his education.
"Luban Workshop is a great opportunity for African young people to learn skills. It not only provides training courses but also unique teaching methods," said Tola Tsegaye Alemu. After obtaining his doctorate, he hopes to bring China's vocational education experience back to Ethiopia and teach the skills he has learned to more people.
Currently, the Luban Workshop located in Ethiopia has become an important base for vocational students from all African countries providing education programs for high-level faculty members from over ten vocational colleges in countries as Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. (Xinhua/Sun Fanyue)
