BEIJING, July 19 (Xinhua) -- China has seen slower growth in the number of cases handled by courts across the country during the first half of the year, thanks to efforts to resolve disputes through pre-litigation mediation, the Supreme People's Court (SPC) said on Friday.
Chinese courts handled 23.176 million cases in the first six months of this year, up 3.9 percent year on year. This growth rate is 13.44 percentage points lower than that of the same period last year, per data released by the SPC.
In the first half of the year, mediators invited by courts across China accepted 9.06 million cases, an increase of 12.3 percent year on year, with 72.27 percent of the cases resolved successfully.
Resolving cases through pre-litigation mediation reflects a nationwide effort to settle social disputes at the community level. ■
