PHNOM PENH, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia exported 6.13 million tonnes of agricultural products in the first half of 2024, up 57 percent from 3.9 million tonnes a year earlier, said a Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) report on Thursday.

The Southeast Asian country earned a total revenue of 2.85 billion U.S. dollars from the commodity exports during the January-June period this year, up almost 19 percent from 2.4 billion dollars in the same period last year, the report said.

Main agricultural items for export included rice, rubber, cassava, mangoes, fresh bananas, pepper, cashew nuts, longan, corn, and palm oil, among others.

Vietnam, Thailand, China and South Korea are the main importers of Cambodia's agricultural produce.

Agriculture is one of the four pillars supporting Cambodia's economy, in addition to garment, footwear, and travel goods export, tourism, and construction and real estate industry.

"Cambodia has not only been able to ensure food security for its people throughout the country, but also been able to produce agricultural products more than domestic demand for exports," MAFF's Minister Dith Tina said in a speech on Monday in celebrating the 19th National Fish Day.

The kingdom exported more than 8 million tonnes of agricultural products in 2023, making a gross revenue of nearly 5 billion dollars, he said.
