ISLAMABAD, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's IT exports are expected to cross the mark of 3 billion U.S. dollars this year, Minister of State for Information Technology (IT) and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja has said.

Speaking at a session of the country's national assembly on Tuesday, Khawaja said IT exports are expected to reach 25 billion dollars in the next five years thanks to policies being made by the country.

She said the government prioritizes the IT sector as a key element in its economic upliftment strategy, and to support this, the country is partnering with Chinese and other international companies to train young people, empowering them to excel in the industry.

In the first phase, at least 1.5 million IT-certified individuals will be trained over the next five years, and later the program will be further expanded, she said.

"We are working on establishing a center for excellence for gaming to promote the gaming industry in the country and start-up ecosystem where all the students have uniform opportunities to grow in the IT sector," the minister added.
