KIGALI, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Rwanda's National Electoral Commission announced Friday evening the final list of candidates to stand in the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled next month.
Three presidential candidates announced on the provisional list include incumbent President Paul Kagame of the ruling Rwandese Patriotic Front (RPF), Frank Habineza of the opposition Democratic Green Party of Rwanda and Philippe Mpayimana, an independent candidate.
The commission also cleared over 500 parliamentary candidates to contest for 80 seats in the lower chamber of parliament.
For political parties, the RPF and its four coalition parties have a majority of parliamentary contestants.
Nine presidential and nearly 700 parliamentary aspirants submitted their candidatures.
The presidential and parliamentary elections will be conducted on July 15.
About 9.5 million Rwandans are eligible to vote in the presidential and parliamentary election, according to the country's electoral body. ■
