RAMALLAH, June 6 (Xinhua) -- At least three Palestinians were killed and a number of others injured by the Israeli army in the northern West Bank city of Jenin, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said on Thursday.

An undercover unit of the Israeli army infiltrated Jenin refugee camp before being joined by additional military reinforcements as Apache helicopters hovered overhead, firing shots towards the camp, the Palestinian official news agency WAFA reported on Thursday.

Israeli forces besieged a house within the camp and shelled it with shoulder-fired missiles, WAFA said.

Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee said in a statement on Thursday that the Israel Defense Forces worked in the past hours "to thwart terrorist activities deep in Jenin."

"During the activity, the forces exchanged fire with armed saboteurs and were able to target a number of saboteurs and arrest a wanted man suspected of involvement in terrorist activities," Adraee said, adding that a military helicopter provided aerial support by bombing the area.
