RAMALLAH, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Two Palestinians were killed and six others injured on Monday during an Israeli military operation in the northern West Bank city of Nablus, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a statement that Israeli forces detained one of its crews while they were transporting a seriously injured young man in an ambulance.

Local Palestinian sources said that Israeli forces stormed the eastern region and Balata camp following the infiltration of special units into the city.

The sources added that Israeli forces surrounded a wedding hall and exchanged fire with Palestinian gunmen.

They added that Israeli forces were pursuing a person who killed two Israeli soldiers in a ramming attack on a military checkpoint south of Nablus.

The cities, camps and villages of the West Bank have witnessed escalating violence since the outbreak of the current Palestinian-Israeli conflict on Oct. 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of more than 500 Palestinians by Israeli gunfire, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
