UNITED NATIONS, May 15 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday condemned the assassination attempt against Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
"The secretary-general strongly condemns the shocking attack carried out today (Wednesday) against the prime minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico," said Farhan Haq, the deputy spokesman for Guterres.
"The secretary-general's thoughts are with the prime minister and his loved ones at this difficult moment," he said.
Fico is reportedly in a life-threatening condition after being shot in Handlova in Slovakia's Trencin region on Wednesday. ■
