MADRID, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Spain national team coach Luis de la Fuente showed his frustration with a section of the supporters who booed striker Alvaro Morata during their 3-3 draw against Brazil on Tuesday night.
The Atletico Madrid forward was booed and whistled by members of the crowd at times during the game, and when he was substituted late in the second half in the game played in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
While Real Madrid players Vinicius Jr, Rodrigo and Endrick (who will join Real Madrid in the summer) were all applauded by supporters, the same fans took another attitude towards the player who has scored 34 times in 71 appearances for the national team.
"It hurts me down to my soul that in my country they whistle at the captain of the national team, and when I hear those whistles, I feel pain," said De la Fuente in his post-game press conference in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
"At the end of the day, there are always people who want to make a show and although most of the fans in Bernabeu were excellent, as a Spaniard I feel ashamed when a player from Spain is whistled," the coach commented, adding that in international games, fans should forget the "the colors of the clubs" and support their country.
Spain midfielder Rodri scored two penalties and Dani Olmo also netted, while Rodrygo, Endrick and Lucas Paqueta scored for Brazil in an entertaining game.
"We were superior as a team and it is annoying not to win, but we know that in top level competition those details are what decide the match. This performance has strengthened us and we think this team can go a long way," De la Fuente remarked. ■
