UNITED NATIONS, March 25 (Xinhua) -- UN humanitarians said on Monday that despite the toll of violence and insecurity in Haiti's capital of Port-au-Prince, the world body and partners, although hindered, continue their aid operations.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said an example of the volatile environment and its impact on the health sector, the Bernard Mevs hospital in Port-au-Prince, which had recently reopened, was forced to suspend its operations again due to insecurity.

To bolster the account, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that less than half of health facilities in the capital are functioning at their standard capacity and that operations were crippled and hindered to the few remaining facilities.

Despite the challenges, WHO said it supports the Ministry of Health and local partners with supplies and logistics, including water, sanitation and hygiene and disease surveillance in centers for displaced people.

The World Food Programme said it provided 17,500 hot meals to the displaced on Sunday.

The UN Children's Fund reported it and its partners continue to provide psychosocial support to people impacted by the violence.

However, OCHA said the humanitarian community continues to appeal for all parties to allow unhindered, and safe access to people in need.
