BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Former Paraguay national team manager Guillermo Barros Schelotto is considering an offer to take charge of Argentine top flight club Racing Club, according to widespread local media reports.
The 50-year-old former Boca Juniors and LA Galaxy boss is the favorite to replace Fernando Gago, who stepped down on Saturday following a poor run of results.
Racing have also shortlisted former Ecuador national team boss Gustavo Alfaro and Independiente del Valle head coach Martin Anselmi for the vacant position, it added.
Schelotto has been out of work since parting ways with Paraguay last month following the Guaranies' poor start to their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
The former Argentina international forward is also reportedly considering offers to join clubs in Mexico and the United States.
Racing currently lead Group B of the Argentine Primera Division with 12 points from seven fixtures, one point ahead of second-placed Belgrano. ■
