KAMPALA, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) on Tuesday named a 21-member team that will take part in the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, on August 19-27.
The team includes Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei, the current world 10,000m defending champion, Jacob Kiplimo, a bronze medallist at last World Championships, Chemutai Peruth, Olympics 3,000m steeplechase defending champion, and Nakaayi Halima, women's 800m world champion in 2019.
"We have entered a strong team that will have nine women and 12 men. The team has prepared well and we are confident they will win several medals," Abdallah Muhammed, the UAF Publicity Secretary told Xinhua on Tuesday.
UAF President Dominic Otuchet told Xinhua that the team traveling for the championship has a lot of experience.
"Most of the athletes on the team have had the chance to compete at the big stage and have been preparing well," added Otuchet.
The Ugandan team will, however, miss Janat Chemusto who was excluded after the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced her suspension on August 6 for her positive results for the banned substance Norandrosterone.
"Janat Chemusto from Uganda has been placed under provisional suspension due to the presence or use of a prohibited substance," read a statement released by AIU. ■
