Istanbul organizes cultural, charity events during Ramadan

ISTANBUL, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Various cultural activities and charity events for residents and earthquake victims will be held in Türkiye's largest city throughout the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Istanbul municipality said that concerts, theater performances, recitals, and other acts at squares and plazas will be organized every day around the city during Ramadan, which kicked off on Thursday.

There would also be many stands featuring foods and handicrafts alongside the performances, it added.

The local municipality noted that museums would be free to visitors during Ramadan in the evenings after iftar dinner.

The Istanbul municipality and several municipalities have also announced that they set up shared kitchens in the cities devastated by the twin earthquakes that happened in February and would provide sahur and iftar meals for earthquake victims.

The authorities expect to feed up to 8,000 people a day at three facilities it is setting up in Hatay province, one of the worst-hit areas in the disaster.
