TEHRAN, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- Iran's naval forces seized 115,000 liters of smuggled fuel in the country's southern waters, the IRIB news agency reported Saturday.

The naval forces discovered the smuggled fuel cargo in proximity to Qeshm Island while patrolling the nearby waters, IRIB quoted Chief Justice of Hormuzgan Province Mojtaba Qahremani as saying.

The smugglers intended to transfer the fuel from the coast to high-speed vessels using two plastic containers, he added.

The smuggled fuel, with an estimated value of 787,500 U.S. dollars, has been handed over to the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, Qahremani noted.
