ISTANBUL, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- With bilateral accords soon to be signed, energy cooperation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan will reach a higher level, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez said on Thursday.
"A new era will begin in the energy field with the upcoming accords to be signed between Türkiye and Azerbaijan," Donmez said at the 2nd Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum held in Istanbul.
The minister revealed that the two countries are working to advance their already-strong energy relationship with new cooperation on renewable green energy and a partnership between state-owned oil companies.
"Soon we will sign an intergovernmental treaty, and a new company born from the partnership between BOTAS and SOCAR (Turkish and Azerbaijani state-owned oil companies) will start its joint operations," Donmez announced.
He emphasized the importance of the robust relationship between Türkiye and Azerbaijan as the two countries supply a crucial amount of energy to the surrounding regions, including Europe, with projects such as Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, South Caucasus, and Trans-Anatolian gas pipelines.
Joint group meetings were organized on the sidelines of the forum on hydrocarbon and petrochemical products, renewable energy use, energy efficiency, and the electricity market.
First held in December 2021 in Baku, the forum was established as part of the efforts in economic cooperation between the two countries to strengthen strategic energy cooperation, according to the press release. ■
