GENEVA, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Frenchwoman Pauline Ferrand-Prevot will herald the first-ever Gravel World Championships of the International Cycling Union (UCI) in Veneto, Italy, on October 8-9.

Ferrand-Prevot, 30, won the cross-country short track world title in 2022 after her victories in UCI Road World Championships, Cyclo-cross World Championships and mountain bike cross-country Olympic (XCO) World Championships.

According to UCI, 556 elite and amateur riders will compete on a 140km course, which includes 69 percent gravel and 700m elevation gain.

Elite male riders will have two additional 27km loops to finish a 194km distance for the titles.

The courses start at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Vicenza, then pass through the historic city of Padua before ending in the medieval walled town of Cittadella, approximately 25km north of Vicenza, announced by a release of UCI on Wednesday.
