DAMASCUS, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- For Abdul-Rahman Dari, doing business in China wasn't on his to-do list when he was a university student in Damascus, but his good luck has led him to unexpected success.

Dari graduated from Damascus University in 1994. At the time, he never imagined that he will be going to China.

But being an A student, Dari went to China in pursuit of further education three years later and got to know Chinese lifestyles and businesses before starting to visit factories and companies.

By the time his term finished, the man had already decided to start a business in China.

Speaking to Xinhua in Damascus after years of working in China, Dari recounted how fortunate he was to have started his own company there.

He started his firm in China, which serves as a business link between Arab companies and Chinese factories.

Dari quickly gathered a team that would work with him, and "most of whom were Chinese who possess communication skills and searching for resources," said the businessman.

Aside from the facilitation to have a quick start, Dari, a father of four children, posited that there is a positive work environment, which is conducive to the success of businesses in China.

"There are legal facilitation as well as the ease in obtaining information and getting supplies. The international fairs in China are also a plus in promoting the businesses," he said.

As a businessman and engineer fascinated by the rapid development of China, Dari said he had been observing the fast-rolling wheels of economic and social development in China.

"The economic development in China covered the entire country in the north, south, and center. All of the developments went in parallel lines, meaning that the economic and social development moved forward hand in hand," he told Xinhua.

His observations have also touched upon the improvement in people's livelihoods in China, saying the living conditions were getting better.

"The living condition in China has become notably high year after another, hence, we are shedding light on the matter of the decline in poverty, which has resulted in fast development," the engineer said.

Technology-wise, Dari said the speed train in China is an example of how fast the country is moving forward.

"The difference between the normal bus and the speed train has impressed us in China due to the fast speed of the train," he said, adding that the economic development of China is as fast as the speed train.
