SANTIAGO, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Consumer confidence in Chile's economy in September dropped to the lowest level since April 2021, according to a survey released Monday by international consulting firm Ipsos.

A record rise in inflation "has dampened Chileans' mood regarding their current situation, and their ability to save and invest," the survey said.

According to Ipsos' Consumer Confidence Index (CCI), which surveys more than 21,000 people worldwide, Chileans' confidence in their country's economic performance fell 0.4 points in September compared to August, to reach 37.4 points.

Chile's CCI was well below the world average (45.7 points) and the Latin American average (42.8 points), placing the South American country close to the bottom of the world ranking, coming in at 24 of the 28 economies surveyed.

Manager of Ipsos Chile Jorge Lopez said that 2022 "has been marked by the slow but sustained downward trend in consumer confidence, both nationally and internationally."

Chile's CCI fell from 45.1 points in February, making it "one of the countries where confidence has dropped more rapidly," said Lopez.
