KUWAIT CITY, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait received a new shipment of 738 boxes of archives and property seized by the Iraq side during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, the Kuwait News Agency said on Monday.
The Kuwaiti foreign ministry confirmed that it had received boxes containing materials belonging to the Kuwaiti ministry of information.
During a handover ceremony, Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs and Minister Plenipotentiary Nasser Al-Qahtani stressed the importance of continuing efforts to recover Kuwaiti properties.
He also urged the Iraqi authorities to finalize the outstanding issues between the two sides by accelerating the pace of work to reveal the fate of Kuwaiti prisoners and missing persons.
For his part, Iraqi Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Legal Affairs Qahtan Al-Janabi confirmed the Iraqi government's keenness to return all Kuwaiti belongings to Kuwait, stressing the readiness to continue work to restore bilateral relations and to resolve all outstanding issues between the two countries.
Assistant Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Information for Radio Affairs Yousef Al-Serri said that Kuwait witnessed a great moment today of the Iraqi handover of the holdings and archives of Kuwait's radio and television, noting that efforts will be made to sort the contents the ministry received.
In March 2021, Kuwait received from Iraq eight tons of documents and other items belonging to various Kuwaiti institutions and taken away during the Iraq invasion.
Today's batch is the fourth shipment of Kuwaiti archives and property that the country has recovered from Iraq since 2019. ■
