MEXICO CITY, March 6 (Xinhua) -- The Liga MX has suspended all matches in Queretaro following violent clashes between fans during a top-flight game in the central Mexican city, the entity said on Sunday.

According to local authorities, 26 people were injured, three critically, after fighting broke out among rival supporters during Saturday's match between Queretaro and Atlas.

Both the Liga MX and the Mexican Football Federation said they had opened investigations to determine the cause of the violence and identify the perpetrators.

"(We) will undertake an in-depth revision of our security protocols," Liga MX president Mikel Arriola said in a video posted on social media.

The game at Corregidora stadium was called off in the 62nd minute, with Atlas leading 1-0 after many panicked fans sought refuge by running onto the pitch.

Videos posted on social media showed groups of men dragging victims along the ground outside the stadium while beating them.

The Liga MX suspended all of Sunday's fixtures and called an emergency meeting of club owners on Tuesday.

"We strongly condemn what happened tonight and our commitment is to act so that there is no impunity in the face of these unfortunate events," Arriola said.

"We are not going to have any football activity here until the case is resolved."

World football governing body FIFA and the Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) condemned the turn of events and call on authorities to seek justice for victims.

"The violence at the La Corregidora stadium was unacceptable and intolerable," FIFA said in a statement.

Mexico is due to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside the United States and Canada.
